

This weekend marks the 125th anniversary of the dedication of St. Peter’s Cathedral Basilica, the centre of Catholic events in the Diocese of London. Beginning this Friday, celebrations include the blessing and sealing of a new time capsule, the launch of a pictorial history book, an evening filled with speakers and music from the Cathedral’s massive pipe organ as well as tours, receptions and Masses: Friday, June 25, 2010 Speakers, Music, Book Launch and Reception 7:30 pm (book launch around 9 pm) Saturday, June 26, 2010 Wine & Cheese Reception 7-10 pm (hall) Sunday, June 27, 2010 Time Capsule Blessing and Sealing: 12 pm Cathedral Tours: 2-5 pm A series of six huge colorful banners depicting the major events in the life of the Cathedral over the last 125 years will be displayed throughout the weekend. Other events are being planned for this yearlong celebration. “From its founding, St. Peter’s Cathedral has offered stability in being the home of the parish community,” Bishop Fabbro wrote in a recent letter to parishioners. “The magnificence of the building, though made of simple materials such as stone and steel, is a striking symbol of Christ’s visible church. All are welcome to come out and enjoy the festivities as the cathedral celebrates both its history and future.” St. Peter’s Cathedral Basilica is located at 196 Dufferin Avenue, London.
