The patients and residents of Parkwood Hospital will be anointed with blessed oil during a Mass celebrated by Most. Rev. Ronald Fabbro, C.S.B., Bishop of London, in observance of the World Day of the Sick:
Thursday, February 11, 2010
1:30 pm
Parkwood Hospital Main Auditorium
801 Commissioners Road East
During the anointing, the bishop touches a person on the forehead and hands with blessed oil and prays over them. The sacrament is available to Catholics in a state of grace who are elderly, seriously ill or facing surgery due to serious illness. The anointing of the sick is one of seven sacraments in the Catholic Church. It brings recipients God’s grace at a difficult time and strengthens them through Christ.
The World Day of the Sick is held each year on the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes to thank health care professionals, pray for the sick and reflect on the Catholic Church’s teachings. Parkwood Hospital is part of St. Joseph’s Health Care, London.
